Traditionalists, shut thine eyes......Cole's first haircut

Well, I'm 9 months old now and I've been getting shaggy apparently. Daddy has been regularly asking Mommy if he can buzz my head to which she has adamantly protested that I'm still a baby and I would look like a prison camp baby if he did that. But my hair has been getting really long and it's wild whenever I wake up or lay on it, so yesterday she gave in. After that lovely soothing ride in my new wagon I was brought home for one of the most traumatic experiences of my young life.

Daddy put the clippers on the longest setting, but it vibrates when it's on and I was absolutely terrified of that vibration on my head. First they tried me sitting in the sink but I was too squirmy, so they strapped me into my high chair. You'll notice the food on my face b/c they tried to calm me down with bites of food between buzzes, but it didn't work. I was inconsolable. After it was over (more due to my weeping than to it really being complete), I got popped in the bathtub which usually makes me happy but not tonight. For the rest of the night I would burst into tears if anything touched my head. It reminded me too much of that horrible buzzer.

And here's the finished product. Today as Mommy posts this she is noticing several patches on my head that got missed, but all in all she likes how it turned out. It's not too short and now I just look more like a little boy and less like a wild-haired baby. Let me stress how traumatic the experience was for ALL involved. I thought I got a year before I had to go through this, but when you have parents who aren't big traditionalists I guess you have to watch your back.

can you say BIG BOY!

Daddy's been ITCHING to get my wagon out, and I'm finally big enough!

You can see everything in a wagon like this!

See ya later...

Bedtime Stories with Daddy

I have the best dad in the whole world. He plays with me, takes me for walks, shares his popsicles with me (not even momma does that), and now he reads me a bedtime Bible story. I love him so much.

Beep Beep! Toes, watch out!

After I learned to crawl last week it got old quickly so I figured I'd just go ahead and learn how to drive to add some spice to my life.

Well, I still need a little help actually moving the vehicle. Faster, Millie, FASTER!!!

Uh-oh. She kinda looks like she wants to get in here too and I'm not really sure how that's going to work....

But cousins always make it work! Look at me learning to share (while still keeping control of the steering wheel...you know how women drive...well, maybe it's just my mother...)

Birthdays at Nana's house

Nana and Mommy's birthdays are just a week apart, so we went over to Nana's last week to celebrate! Here is Millie on her new trike that she is very proud of. I'm already concocting my plan to get one in another year or so. It had a bell and everything!

I'm a little unsure why this was comfortable, but at the time it was so cozy swinging with Daddy in my "koala pose".

Aunt Rachel P. and my great-grandma Maw

Uncle Joel and Simon. I think Simon and I are going to be good friends in a few more months when we learn how to really play together. I've got to train him now, though, to let me be the boss.

Me and Aunt Rachel P. She's so much fun!

Tiger in the grass

Mommy would like to take this post to tell a few things about me for posterity:
1. I still cry every time Daddy sneezes - even if he tries to be very quiet and I'm distracted.
2. I love to walk around the house and yard for as long as Mommy will let me hold on to her fingers for balance.
3. I learned how to crawl last week and have become very adept at getting anywhere I'd like to. I still army crawl most of the time, but they've seen me do a true crawl.
4. I take 3 naps a day usually, and have for the last few months. One nap 2 hours after I wake up, another nap 2-3 hours after I wake up from the first one, and usually a third 20 minute power nap in the late afternoon to make it through until bedtime. I go to bed between 7:30 and 8:30 and I wake up between 6:00 and 7:00.
5. One of my most endearing noises for Mommy is when I'm sitting on her lap after nursing and she's burping me and I smack my lips. Those milkshakes are just so good I can't HELP but smack.

6. My favorite toys are mommy's silicone baster, her whisks, her silicone garlic peeler, any type of shoe (i'm not sure why but these always get promply taken away), plastic bags (also promptly taken away), and Mommy and Daddy's Nalgene water bottles. Notice the trend here that my favorite toys aren't really toys at all.
7. I got sick for the first time in my young life at the end of June. After 2 weeks of runny nose/cough I was finally diagnosed with both ears infected and a sinus infection. I just kicked that last week and woke up yesterday with more runny nose and today with a cough. Maybe I can get Mommy to take me to the doctor sooner this time....
8. I have TEETH! Right at the 8 month mark my two bottom middle teeth broke through.
9. I've very ticklish under my arms and on my thighs.
10. I threw up for the first time 2 weeks ago. You'd think any sane adult would know that the food combination Mommy came up with for lunch that day wouldn't stay in any person's stomach long (oatmeal, hard-boiled egg yolk, mango, peas, and TOFU!) After ridding my intestines of all items and a bath, I felt much better.

11. Momma dropped me for the first time 2 days ago. She lets me play on the couch sometimes after she changes my diaper and USUALLY she watches me good so I don't roll off, but it was a critical moment on Wipe Out and she was distracted and off I went right onto the floor - she felt bad as well she should.
12. Grass and leaves are of INFINITE interest to me as seen below. I love to look, crunch, hold, step on, and put in my mouth.

13. My favorite foods are: everything except green beans, tofu (see #10 above), and rutabaga (face it, some of you adults won't even eat those 3 things). I'm a very good eater and usually eat two solid food meals at some point each day. Mommy continues to make almost all of my food. She even grinds the oats to make my oatmeal. She says it's fun...it must be an adult thing.
14. Mommy still works 10 hours a week at Bomgar Corporation and Daddy still works 40 hours a week at Dent Air Conditioning (he likes to tease mommy about her 4-day weekends).
15. I have never taken a pacifier or sucked my thumb or fingers for anything long enough to be considered a habit. The only comfort item I have is my burp cloth which I like to sleep with up by my face.

16. I love to play piano. After I get through eating Mommy pushes my highchair (handily on wheels) over to the piano and I love to bang around on it for a few minutes.
17. Mommy and Daddy are currently putting their bodies through nightly punishment to the tune of P90X. I never get to see it b/c I'm in bed, but from what I can hear it sounds like a torture chamber. It's a 90-day program and they're on day 17 and have only missed 1 day. I must say I'm very proud of them. Mommy spends a good portion of her day preparing the food for the nutrition part of it so kuddos to her keeping up with that AND taking care of me (maybe that's why I got dropped (see #11) - she just needed some time to relax.
18. I love to swing. Mommy bought me a swing just for me but it hasn't been put up yet. I can't WAIT until I can just swing and swing and swing.
19. The biggest temptations for me that are no-nos (but I love them SO much) are: 1. The open dishwasher - i LOVE to play with the utensils. 2. The computer cord (as mommy types I'm trying to pry it out from between her feet where she's trying to keep it safe). 3. The trash can - it's almost magnetic for me. 4. The oven - again, the moment it opens I do my best to get there before she closes it. 5. Any type of paper - and I do mean any - mail, notebooks, newspaper, anything I can get my chompers on.
20. Cole continues to be one of the biggest blessings Thomas and I could've ever asked for. We continue to be so thankful for a healthy, happy, delightful son. God has been good to us.

HURRICANE!!!

Boy oh boy did I have a fun time playing with the vent while the AC was on.

Riiiiiding the wind

One week and I've learned so much

Mommy came in to check on me during my nap a week and a half ago and here I was, I've learned how to push myself to a sitting and kneeling position from my belly.

I shouldn't have let her see me before my escape from the crib was complete. After the stunt I pulled during my nap Daddy came home and lowered my crib so now I can't get out! But I sure do love to stand by the side of it when the bar is down - I feel like such a big boy.

Look at me! 8 1/2 months old.

Maybe if I look cute enough they'll leave me alone long enough to scale this rail and make my escape after all. I'm just DYING to pull the lamp off the table but haven't had the opportunity.....yet....

Rub-a-dub-RACOON!!

It's hard to look racoonish when you're as happy as I am!

I do love to play on the bed, especially after a bath.

Here's my best racoon face - how am I doing?

I beginning to learn how to splash but I still like a pretty tranquil bathtime.

I try to tell Mommy it's fun in here but she always prefers to stay on the outside and squirt me with my bath animals.

This is what happens when Daddy is in charge of mealtime

Prunes + Daddy's feeding methods = a very messy boy (and chair, and floor, etc)

What's that I see? RAIN?

It's been VERY dry and hot down here in Mississippi for the last 6 weeks or so, and a few days ago we actually had RAIN! Here I am checking out the skies.

Well, I guess I won't be going outside today. I do love to stand on the couch and look out the window (really I just love playing with the blinds under close supervision).

I guess I'll just hang out inside today :)
