When you're not a big beach bum (and I'm clearly not), your parents have to find other activities to occupy the time. So we got to go to the zoo! It was pretty small in size, but that just meant you got to be up-close-and-personal with all the animals.
Like the birds, for example. You could just stick your little finger right through their cage! (unless your momma inexplicably yanks you away "in the nick of time" as she says) 
Now this joker's not getting anywhere near my fingers. I may be a little naive, but I'm not dumb...
They even had lions, which I would've liked to get a little closer to...
and much to my delight the tigers pratically BREATHED on me!
But I'm cool staying a little ways away from this guy...he looks angry
